It turns out that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old assassin of Charlie Kirk, was not simply a leftist radical. He was also living with Lance Twiggs, a man in the process of ‘transitioning’ into a woman. The FBI says the two were romantically involved. It seems likely, then, that Robinson may have slain Charlie Kirk to avenge the honor of his transgender lover.
Both Robinson and Twiggs came from conservative families in Utah. They did not learn gender ideology there. They appear to have been radicalized online, which can be a sinkhole of unfathomable depravity. There is evidence that both young men were also involved in the “furry” world—a sexualized subculture of humans who wear animal costumes.
This image, posted to social media in 2013 by Robinson’s mother, when her son was only ten years old, is an icon of our times:

All transgenders are not murderers, but it is more than a little disturbing how many killers these days turn out to be trans. The female who massacred children at a Christian school in Nashville two years ago? Trans. The male who shot up a Catholic church in Minneapolis last month, killing two children at prayer? Trans. In Vermont, the trial of a trans person charged with murdering a U.S. Border Control agent in January has begun. Teresa Youngblut is part of the Zizians, a cult of trans people suspected in six serial killings across America.
In the past, the medical profession recognized gender dysphoria as a mental disorder, and recommended treatment. But over the last decade or so, under pressure from activists and their politician allies, transgenderism has become normalized, even valorized. Among the Zoomer generation—the same as Tyler Robinson and his lover—transgender identification has soared.
It cannot be an accident that the first generation raised with the Internet is also the one most accepting of gender ideology. There is a connection between pornography and trans identity. Andrea Long Chu, a prominent transgender academic and writer, credits ‘sissy porn’ with his desire to embrace a female identity, including having his genitals removed. ‘Sissy porn’ is a style of pornography designed to systematically feminize men who watch it.
Here in Europe, Charlie Kirk has been portrayed by the media as a right-wing extremist. It is a complete lie. Kirk was well within the American conservative mainstream, and in fact was hated by actual right-wing extremists, who found him too moderate. As an American living in Hungary, watching the European media lie about who Kirk really was made me think about how they routinely caricature and smear Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán in the same way.
In 2019, the Orbán government removed Gender Studies from the list of accredited master’s and Ph.D. programs at Hungarian universities. Orban recognized that universities were the generators of this madness spreading throughout Western societies. To paraphrase Solzhenitsyn, the lie of gender ideology might spread widely, but not through Hungary.
Two years later, Orbán signed into law a ban on LGBT material aimed at children and minors. It was hugely controversial in Europe. NATO chief Mark Rutte, at the time prime minister of the Netherlands, called for Hungary to be expelled from the European Union over it. He said he hoped to “bring Hungary to its knees” over the law.
Orbán responded by saying the law is designed to give parents more control over what their children learn about homosexuality and transgenderism. Given the agonies the United States now suffers from mentally unstable young people whose minds and bodies have been ruined by gender ideology, Viktor Orbán looks prescient and brave. Do you get it now?
But there is only so much any government can do in the age of the Internet. A Catholic friend who lives in Central Europe told me he and his wife gave their daughter a smartphone when she was around the same age as Tyler Robinson was when his parents turned him loose in the online world. Everybody else in their child’s class had one, and the dangers seemed very far away from their calm, peaceful town.
But the child found her way into an online community of American teenagers who promoted transgenderism. They wormed their way into her mind. The grieving father told me his daughter had become overwhelmed by anxiety about her gender. She struggled to eat, or even to go to school.
To be sure, most of the kids in that girl’s school probably did not become transgender because of their smartphones. But it happened to her. It is impossible to ban the Internet. Therefore, there is no protection from this poison, aside from parents – and groups of parents – who say a firm “no” to giving their children access to digital culture.
Charlie Kirk’s murder should not be used as an excuse to declare war on transgender people. But it should galvanize sane men and women across the political spectrum to declare war on gender ideology, especially its introduction to children.
In Belgium, for example, schools introduce gender ideology in the earliest grades. A Muslim taxi driver in Brussels told me earlier this year that he and his wife lied to their daughters’ school, telling them that as parents, they would support their children’s gender transition if asked. Why did they lie? Because, said the driver, we are afraid the state will seize our children if we don’t.
What are we doing to mentally unstable young people? What will it take to make our societies return to sanity? Viktor Orbán and Charlie Kirk were smeared as right-wing fanatics for opposing gender ideology. Charlie Kirk refused to live by the lies of gender ideology, and he died as a martyr to the truth. As Solzhenitsyn and Havel taught, a system based on lies cannot survive if enough people refuse to be intimidated by the liars in power. May the blood of that martyr be the seed of a political and social rebellion by parents and others who find the courage to refuse the lies pushed by the bullies in Brussels and everywhere else tyrannized by these mad ideologues.
But don’t think this is only a political battle. It is a battle that must be fought in every family. Ask the poor Robinson family of Utah, who now have to live with the realization that they innocently opened up a portal to hell for their once-normal young son.
