The hypocrisy of the West and its Western-controlled sporting organisations is glaring for anyone willing to see. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russia was swiftly ejected from most major sporting events, its players blacklisted, its flags removed, and daily tributes to Ukraine mandated across almost every major sport. Football, the world’s most popular game, was at the forefront of this campaign, with FIFA and UEFA leading the charge to ostracise Russia and rally support for Ukraine.
Neither the European nor the world football’s governing bodies, UEFA and FIFA, issued a statement condemning or sanctioning “Israel” as they have for Russia when the war in Ukraine was launched last year, as they channel double standards on solidarity with human rights, a report by Anadolu Agency explained.
The awarding of the World Cup to the Gulf state by FIFA in 2010 was a scandal at the time. Qatar is a country which has no football tradition. It has 3 million residents, but only one in ten of these is a Qatari citizen. The country’s unbearable heat made the usual summer schedule for the tournament impossible. Moreover, it is ruled by a despot who does not even allow rudimentary forms of democracy.
